In late 2003, Nokia launched its basic GSM mobile phone which was Nokia 1100. Over 250 million 1100s have been sold since its launch, making it the world's best selling phone handset and the best selling consumer electronics device in the world at the time.
The much-loved Nokia 1100 holds the record for the most units sold ever, having sold more than 250 million units in six years before being discontinued in 2009.
Even though the Nokia E-series and the iPhone were the first mass-market smartphones, the 1100s' low price, focus on basic functionality, and small size made it popular in developing nations.
The Nokia 1110, a second-place variant of the same line, sold 248 million units.
With a combined 222 million units, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are ranked third. They remain Apple's best-selling iPhones and the best-selling smartphones of all time thanks to their 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, which heralded the era of large-screen smartphones. In fact, the iPhone 6 was so well known it was re-launched in 2017 at a mid-range cost level.
