The Indian Premier League (IPL) was founded by Mr. Lalit Modi, who is known as the chief architect and first chairman of the IPL. IPL was officially launched on 13th September 2007 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In early 2008, IPL auctions were held, and franchises were sold to Bollywood celebrities, industrialists, and business magnates. The inaugural match was played on 18 April 2008 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
